St Andrews Monastic Archaeology Field School Opens First Excavation Season at Lindores Abbey
Follow our first season of digging at Lindores Abbey, a monastery with connections to the Abbey of Tiron in France. Lindores was one of four monastic communities in Scotland with roots at Tiron. Our first year of field work will focus on water use and around the abbey. We will have trenches to explore a potential fountain and water source in the cloister garth, the monks’ redorter (toilet!), and the monastery’s water gate. This is a partnership between the Monastic Archaeology Field School and Lindores Abbey Distillery. Follow our progress on the Monastic Archaeology Field School website!
